Pacific Booker opposes Lake Babine court intervention
Pacific Booker Minerals Inc. says there is no reason for the Lake Babine Nation to intervene in the company’s court case against the B.C. government over the rejection of the Morrison mine. The Indian band was able to express its views during the environmental assessment of the project, Pacific Booker claims. Moreover, the government adequately consulted and accommodated the Lake Babine’s concerns.
Pacific Booker made the statements in support of a petition it filed in the Supreme Court of British Columbia on April 3, 2013, against the B.C. Minister of Environment and the B.C. Minister of Energy, Mines, and Natural Gas. The company complained that the government unfairly refused to issue a certificate for the Morrison mine after a lengthy review process. Pacific Booker said it had done everything necessary to secure the permit, including devising a way to alleviate concerns about the mine’s tailings entering nearby Morrison Lake. The government, however, refused to issue a certificate.
