Sometimes you just have to laugh at yourself for saying stupid things…..the media never forgets. The funny thing is, the company is moving to Montreal and my neighbour is a diehard Habs fan.
Paul Gill’s Lomiko Metals Inc. (LMR) closed down $0.005 to 11 cents on 759,000 shares. Mr. Gill, Lomiko’s Surrey-based president and CEO, is cheering his company’s new web site — bilingual no less — designed to “communicate the positive results” from a preliminary economic assessment of its La Loutre graphite project in Quebec. This is the dream sheet that the company communicated to investors late in July, generating a brief 3.5-cent uptick in Lomiko’s stock.
Mr. Gill still calls the Vancouver area home, although six years ago he threatened a move to Quebec after watching the Montreal Canadiens “storm back to score four unanswered goals to win against the [Vancouver] Canucks.” (Given the season both teams had last year, Mr. Gill’s neighbours might see a moving van pull up any day now.) Fortunately, La Loutre has developed at a better pace than has his Canucks: The project now has 23.2 million tonnes measured and indicated averaging 4.51 per cent graphite and another 46.8 million tonnes inferred at 4.01 per cent.
Those figures are below what Jean-Sebastien Lavallee, head of Lomiko’s former partner, Canada Strategic Metals Inc., deemed necessary — 20 million tonnes averaging 5 per cent graphite — but there is more than enough higher-grade rock to hit that target. The study proposes a $236-million, 4,100-tonne-per-day mine that would mine and process 21.8 million tonnes of rock averaging 6.67 per cent graphite. Having finally cleared Mr. Sebastien’s hurdle, the bottom line was encouraging, with a discounted net present value of $185-million.
